~ Treating Osteoarthritis with ExerciseTreating Osteoarthritis with ExerciseThe second form of treatment for osteoarthritis is simply exercise. It may seem that someone suffering from joint pain would abhor the idea of exercise, but while it can put pressure on already sore joints, it can also prevent further damage by reducing your weight and lessening the strain put on them. When a person fails to implement daily exercise into their life’s regimen, they actually weaken the muscles from lack of use. Pain can result. But if a person uses his or her muscles and strengthens them in the process, they are less likely to suffer from inflammation and soreness. The key to using exercise as a means of treating osteoarthritis is in doing proper exercise that won’t injure your joints further. For instance, moving your arm in a large circle is more beneficial for an osteoarthritis patient than lifting a 50-pound dumbbell. However, strengthening exercises do contribute to the health of your muscles, so you can start out slow and increase the weight with time. Some good exercises to start out with would be stretching, swimming, which does not put pressure on your joints, walking (not running or jogging), and cycling. When a joint is not exercised, it begins weakening and losing its proper shape. Eventually, it no longer functions as it once did and the effects of osteoarthritis set in to do more damage. Visit
